Owen D. Ague, 84, of McDonald, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday April 11, 2012, at Homewood at Crumland Farms in Fredrick, Maryland. He was born August 18, 1927 in Girard, the son of the late Harold and Caroline (Jones) Ague and spent his youth in McDonald. He served in World War II as a Navy Corpsman. He returned to McDonald in 1951 where he was active in supporting the community. In addition to serving on the village council and as village treasurer, he was a volunteer fireman for over 40 years and was the voice of McDonald football for 50 years. He was also the chairman of the McDonald Fire Department 4th of July Homecoming for nearly 20 years. Additionally, Owen was a member of the Homestead, Pennsylvania Lodge of the Masonic Order and the First Baptist Church in Howland. Owen retired as a Manager in the Youngstown district of the State of Ohio Tax Department in 1993, and from 1993 until 2009 he was an independent tax advisor and accountant in McDonald. He also operated a barber shop business in McDonald. He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Margaret Higham Ague, daughter, Carrie Ann (Jerry) Pierson of Frederick, MD, brothers, Charles W. (Elma) Ague, & Reverend Paul (Jean) Ague, sister, Mary Margaret Hatt, sisters-in-law, Hilda Ratay and Eleanor Higham, grandchildren, Daniel and Benjamin Pierson, many nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends. He was preceded in death by siblings, Robert Burns, Jack Burns, Dorothy Paschke and Harold Ague. A Celebration of Owen's life will take place at Blackstone Funeral Home on Monday April 16, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2-5 PM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Girard City Cemetery with Military Honors.
