Phyllis Jean (Charlesworth) DelBene, 75, of Niles, passed away Thursday April 20, 2017 at her daughter’s home with her family by her side. Phyllis was born in Youngstown, Ohio on September 10, 1941, the daughter of James Ward and Sara (Carlton) Charlesworth. Phyllis earned her Master's Degree in Education from Youngstown State University. She was employed as a school teacher for the Howland School District for 30 years and retired in 2002. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She researched Civil War soldiers in Trumbull County, genealogy and was an active member of the Girard Historical Society and editor of the True Grit. Interests included quilting, stained glass, visiting Geneva-on-the-Lake, New York City and Florida. She is survived by her children, Louis M. (Wendy and her daughter Grace) DelBene Jr. of Kent, Ohio, Michelle (Tom) Mazzella of Liberty Township, and Michael (Fran) DelBene of McDonald, her sister, Barbara (Darwin) Huber of Arizona, her four grandsons, Thomas, Anthony, Trevor Mazzella and Kristopher DelBene, and Louis M. DelBene Sr., whom she was married to for 27 years and remained dear friends. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death her brother, James Ward Charlesworth Jr. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 24th, 12:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10AM until the time of the service. The family requests any memorial contributions be made to All Care Hospice or the Girard Historical Society in Phyllis’s name.
