Rennie T Griffith

Rennie T. Griffith, 90, of Girard, died Monday March 19, 2012 at her residence. She was born November 20,1921 in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of the late Carmelo & Amalia Marchese Tornello. She graduated from Rayen High School and Skidmore College in Saratoga, New York. While at Skidmore she was a Secretary and 1st Vice President of College Government. She was an Accountant for C. Tornello & Company for 8 years and Youngstown Sheet & Tube for 5 years. Rennie was a very active member of The Youngstown Playhouse for over 40 years and appeared in 26 plays. She received the Arthur Award for Best Actress, and The Moyer Award with husband John. She also served on The Board of Directors for a total of 30 years as Vice President and Secretary. Rennie was one of the founders of The Civic Children's Theatre of Youngstown and was chosen "Women of The Year In Arts" by the YWCA. She was also a member of The Junior League of Youngstown, The Youngstown Playhouse, The Youngstown Country Club, The Garden Club of Youngstown, The Town Club and The Tourist Club. She volunteered for many Civic and Art Organizations and loved golfing and gardening. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa A. Griffith, grandsons Jason (Kim) Sforza and Christopher (Nina) Sforza, great-grandchildren Luca and Christopher Sforza Jr., 2 nieces and 3 nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, John E. Griffith, whom she married April 23, 1949 and died June 7, 2002, sister Marie Hughes and brothers Dr. Robert L. Tornello and Victor Tornello. Private services will be held on Thursday March 22, 2012 at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. Interment will take place at Girard City Cemetery.
