A Memorial Service will be held on May 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel at Calvary Cemetery for Richard G. Allen, 68, formerly of Youngstown, Ohio, who passed away April 2, 2017 in Kindred Rehab in California.  Richard was born December 1, 1948, the son of Chester Lloyd and Sophia (Pinter) Allen.

Richard was a graduate of South High School. He was a Sergeant 1st Class in the United States Army for 20 years. He served two terms in Vietnam and was a cook and a military messenger for his unit.

He loved sports and his favorite team was the Washington Redskins. He also loved to watch Law and Order. He was a past member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Youngstown.

Besides his wife of 25 years, Sherry (Walfson) Allen, he leaves two daughters, Shirley (Ward) Stalker of Chesapeake, VA and Veronica Nicolaison of Aspen, VA, grandchildren Kylie Bennett and William Stalker of Chesapeake, VA, Chase Phillips and Ashton Phillip of Charlottesville, VA , great-grandson Karter Bennett of Chesapeake, VA , two step-daughters Kim Jacobs Christy of Palmdale, CA and Stacey Freeman of Las Vegas, NV,  three step-grandsons Carter Christy, Ryan and Sean Dean, two sisters Marlene O’Neill of Girard and JoAnn Miskovch of Howland, one brother Donald Allen of Youngstown, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by three brothers Chester Allen, Edward Allen, Richard Leo “Dickie” Allen and his sister Mary Lou Allen.

The family and friends will gather in the Chapel in Calvary Cemetery for a Memorial Service May 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM followed by military honors.
