Richard A. "Dick" Chalker, 81, of Cortland, formerly of Girard, died Monday July 21, 2014 at Liberty Health Care Center. He was born on July 24, 1932 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Dr. Harry and Margaret "Peg" Bruce Chalker. Dick retired from Girard Machine where he worked for over 50 years as a mechanical engineer. He was an Airforce veteran serving in the Korean war. He graduated from Girard High School in 1950 and was on the class reunion committee, member of the Girard First United Methodist Church, an active member of the Cortland Conservation Club, and formerly a member of Jaycees and the Boy Scouts troop #41. Dick enjoyed outdoor sports and snowmobiling when his children were young. He loved going to Flordia, where he and his wife spent many years there with family, friends and grandchildren. Dick loved boating and waterskiing and taught his family and grandchildren all how to waterski. He was also an avid reader. He lived to cherish his children, Robert H. (Kim) Chalker of Katy, Texas and Kimberly L. (Ronald) Ross of Cortland, brother, Bruce (Marty) Chalker of Denver, Colorado, grandchildren, Taylor and Stephen Chalker, Eric and Macy Ross, nephews, Dr. Richard Chalker and Charles Chalker, and special friend of the family Sarah Korb of Girard. He is preceded in death by his wife Marcia A. Trow Chalker whom he married August 2, 1958 and passed away December 5, 2010. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday July 23, 2014 at 6:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home followed by a military service at the funeral home. Family will receive relatives and friends from 4:oo pm till time of service at the funeral home in Girard. Dick will be laid to rest at Girard City Cemtery.
