Richard T. Holmes

Richard Thomas Holmes, 83, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Richard was born to parents Howard E. Holmes and Mary E. (Mckenna) Holmes on March 29, 1934.
Richard was a graduate of Girard High School and then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He retired from Packard Electric while raising a family.  His love of dance and old films was shared with both his family and the community, where he volunteered many hours at local dance studios selling tickets, working shows, and watching his grandkids perform.
He touched the lives of many people with his huge heart and playful banter.  He was quite a dancer himself and played the organ for friends and family.  Richard also had a fond love of sports, especially the Cleveland Browns and Penn State.
He enjoyed spending time with family and could always be seen giving rides and supporting his grandkids and great-grandkids in many activities. He loved to travel and go out to eat.
His memory will be honored by his children, Kelli A. Moody (Edward Moody), Kevin T. Holmes, Kerri M. Burrows and Keith E. Holmes; as well as his grandchildren, Kristy L. Moody, Edward T. Moody, Kody M. Holmes, Kennedy P. Holmes, Karlee M. (Burrows) Clay, Kayla L. Holmes and Kyle N. Holmes; and also his great-grandchildren, Gavin B. Moody, Jayden S. Moody and Bryce A. Clay.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Patty Ann Smerchansky, Mary Helen Holmes, Dorothy Holmes, Agnes Anness, Eugene Holmes, James Holmes and Joseph Holmes.
Memorial services to celebrate his life and honor his memory will be held on Monday, March 5, at 7 p.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, where family will receive guests and condolences, from 5 to 7 p.m., prior to services.
