Robert J Jones

Robert J. Jones, 77, of Girard, passed away Sunday at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Robert was born July 18, 1939, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late William J. and Sarah (Schreckengost) Jones. Robert retired from General Motors in 1996. His prior employment included Girard Sewage Plant and Ohio Leather Works.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, IFH, and Retirees Union #1112. He was an avid sports fan, most passionate about his Cleveland Indians and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children; Christine (Gary) Staffrey, of North Jackson, Robert J. (Lori) Jones, of California, John (Sara) Jones, of Arizona, Joseph (Chantel) Jones of Canfield, and Peter J. (Sue) Sabino, of Brookfield Twp., his sisters; Gloria Jones, of Kinsman and Eunice Smith of Girard, his brother David Jones of Girard, his sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, O. Jean Jones whom he married September 6, 1974 and died December 11, 2015, a daughter Carol Barrett, a sister Mitzi Wolfe, and his brothers James and William Jones. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 7th, 7:00 PM, at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5:00 PM until the time of the service. Robert will be laid to rest at Girard City Cemetery.
