Robert J Schmalzried Sr.

Robert J. Schmalzried Sr., 68, of Girard, passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at his home. Robert was born November 27, 1948 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Bernard and Alice (Geis) Schmalzried. Robert was a graduate of Youngstown State University and retired as a  co-owner and operator of A&B Unfinished Furniture in Warren, where he had worked for over 35 years. He was a member of St. Rose Church. Robert was a devoted family man and enjoyed going to the Jewish Community Center. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former,  Lenora "Lennie" Walsh, whom he married November 11, 1972, his children; Robert J. Schmalzried Jr. of Torrington, Wyoming, Lynn (Daniel) Pomponio of Lewis Center, Ohio and Marty Schmalzried of Columbus, Ohio, grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Christopher, Megan and David, sister; Sr. Maureen Schmalzried of Emmitsburg,, Maryland and brothers; Fr. Bernard Schmalzried  of Warren, Albert Schmalzried of Vienna and James Schmalzried of Girard. Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sister Mary "Sunshine" Schmalzried. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 12th, 11:00 AM at St. Rose Church, preceded by a prayer service at 10:30 AM at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 6-8 PM, at the funeral home. Robert will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery.
