Robert Joseph M. White, 71, of Niles, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015, at his residence. Bob was born June 2, 1943, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Harold J. and Augusta Zick White. Bob graduated from McDonald High School in 1961. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, served during the Vietnam War, and was stationed in various locations throughout the world. He retired from the Navy in 1986 as a Chief Petty Officer after 24 years, a career with special honor and distinction. After retirement, Bob worked for various companies in the Washington, D.C. area. In 2009 he retired from the Northrop – Grumman Corporation and moved back to Ohio. Last year Bob arranged a trip of a lifetime with his son and nephew, to go to Germany for the Oktoberfest, and considered it one of the best times of his life. Bob was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his son, Michael T. White, of Washington D.C.; his sister, Kathleen (David) Smith of Liberty Twp.; his ex-wife and longtime friend, Diana White; nephews: Scott (Heidi) Smith, Jeff (Shannon) Smith and Dan (Shelley) Smith; and great-nieces and nephews: Matthew, Meghan, Ryan, Zachary, Justin, Bradley and Allison. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 21st, 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in McDonald, with Military Honors following the service. Burial will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, March 20th, from 5-7 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard.
