Roger W. Orwig

Roger W. Orwig, 80, of Niles, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017. Roger was born April 7, 1937 in Niles, Ohio, the son of Harold and Salina (Vandergrift) Orwig. Roger had worked on the railroad for Copperweld Steel Co. in Warren for 38 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Niles and the Moose Lodge. Roger was a former Eagle Scout and Boy Scout Leader. Roger served his country in the US Marines during the Korean Conflict. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, Sherry (Richard) Stiffler of Mineral Ridge and Terraina (David Sr.) Dahman of Greenville, Pa., his grandchildren; Matthew (Sara) Stiffler, Jonathan (Jessica) Stiffler, David Dahman Jr., Joshua Dahman and Allyson Dahman, and his great-grandchildren; Benjamin, William, Jackson, Jacob, Jasmine, Michelle, Nova, Harmaney, Zoey, Christian, Jonathon, and Remington. Besides his parents, Roger is preceded in death by his wife, Sarah J. (Baker) Orwig, whom he married June 5, 1958 and died November 12, 2005, his sister, Darlene Estes, brothers, Harold and Rusty Orwig and his great-granddaughter, Emily. Private funeral services where held at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard with military honors. Roger was laid to rest, next to his wife, at Girard City Cemetery.
