Ruth (Haines) Hovis

Ruth J. Hovis, 91, of Youngstown, formerly of Girard, passed away on Wednesday April 6, 2016, at Park Vista  in Youngstown, Ohio. Ruth was born April 19, 1924 in Girard, Ohio, the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Florabelle Fortney Haines. Ruth was a homemaker for most of her life, a member of the First Christian Church, where she was very active for many years as a Sunday School Teacher, Elder and 50+ year choir member, a member of the Girard Senior Citizens and the Nifty-Fifty Club. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters; Nancy J. Markota (Tony), of Struthers, Ohio and Carole A. Kubrin (Ed) of Cincinnati , Ohio, a sister, Jeannette Verner( Joe) of Manchester, Tenn., granddaughters; Lauren (Brad) Sheets of Cincinnati and Tricia of Washington, D.C. and a great-granddaughter Kate and several nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil R. Hovis, whom she married Jan. 5, 1946 and died July 16, 1987, and sisters; Marjorie E. Miller and Leah Sample. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 11th, 11:00 AM, at the First Christian Church, where visitation will be held from 10:30 AM until the time of service, and also on Sunday from 2-4 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. Ruth will be laid to rest, next to her husband, at Girard City Cemetery. The family requests any memorial contributions be made to the church memorial fund.
