Samuel DePizzo, 93, of Youngstown, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Boardman. Sam was born November 10, 1921 in Youngstown, the son of Nicholas and Anna Maramo DePizzo. Sam had owned and operated his own pizza shop, Sherwood Pizza, in the
Southside of Youngstown in his earlier years, was a taxi driver at one time and retired as a foreman from Youngstown Water Department after 22 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and an Army Veteran of WWII. Sam was an avid baseball fan. He was a coach and manager for 53 years for many leagues and teams and enjoyed playing the lotto. He is survived by his children; Nick (Marcia) DePizzo of Austintown, Ralph (Sandy) DePizzo of Las Vegas and Ann DePizzo of Boardman, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, the former, Angela Marie Maravola, his sister Mary Newcomb and brother Jack DePizzo. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, January 16th, from 5-7 PM at the Blackstone Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM following visitation.
