Samuel Joseph Zirafi Sr.

Samuel J. "Scrappy" Zirafi Jr., 93, of Girard, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2014 at his home.  Scrappy was born June 8, 1921 in Girard, the son of the late Samuel J. and Madeline Messuri Zirafi Sr.  Scrappy retired from U.S. Steel after many years as a Supervisor, and later worked for IGA grocery store as a delivery tech.  He served during WWII for the U.S. Coast Guard and was a member of St. Rose Church.  Scrappy enjoyed family vacations, going to Las Vegas and Mountaineer with his wife, the horse races, and playing cards.  Scrappy is survived by his wife, the former, Mary J. Capella, whom he married April 27, 1946, his sons, Robert A. Zirafi and Samuel J. (Mary Ann) Zirafi III, both of Girard, daughter Christine M. (Partner Susan) Zirafi of Bay Village, Ohio, grandsons Kevin, Jason and Chad Zirafi and granddaughter Jacquelyn Crandell and a brother Anthony Zirafi of Girard.  He is preceded in death by his sisters Rose Kobal and Virginia Perry and a brother John.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 22nd, 11:00 AM at St. Rose Church preceded by a prayer service at 10:30 AM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
