Sarah Pauline Collins

Sarah Pauline Stoner Collins, 101, of Girard, passed away peacefully on Friday November 18, 2011 at Liberty Health Care Center.  She was born September 19, 1910 in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Jesse and  Edna McGoughan Stoner.  Pauline retired after teaching for 30 years.  She started in a one room rural school in Pennsylvania, and  left teaching for 4 years to work in Social Services.  She attended Indiana State Teachers College of Pennsylvania., and California University of Pennsylvania.  She received her Bachelors Degree at Youngstown College in 1955.  She resumed her teaching at Braceville, Ohio in 1950 for 4 years and then went to McDonald in 1955 to teach at Roosevelt Elementary School until she retired.  Pauline was secretary of the Girard Seniors for many years and treasurer.  In 1991, she was selected as "Senior Citizen of the Year".  She golfed and bowled and was secretary of several bowling leagues until the age of 95.  She is survived by her daughters Sally (Ron) Snyder of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Janice (Tom) Pallante of Girard, nine grandchildren, Kelly (Gary) Cromer, Kristi (Ed) Johnston, Kerri Snyder, John Snyder, Lori Pallante, Ralph (Leslie) Pallante, Shari (Todd) Rush, Lesley Pallante, and Tom (Jayme) Pallante, fifteen grandchildren, Kiera, John, Brittney, Stacey, Derek, C.J., Wyatt, Adam, Sara, Grace, Katelyn, Jackson, Parker, Lilly and Ty, and one great-great-granddaughter Ava Marie.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 1/2 years, Walter J. Collins of Scottdale, Pennsylvania., and they were married in 1935 and moved to Girard in 1937. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday November 22, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home, where family will receive relatives and friends from 1:oo PM till time of service.  Interment will be held at Scottdale Cemetery in Scottdale, Pennsylvania.  The family request in lieu of flowers that material contributions be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard.  Visit www.blackstonesfh.com to view this obituary and send condolences to the Collins family.
