Vincenzo "Vince" Martuccio, of Girard, who recently celebrated his 93rd birthday, and his 65th wedding anniversary with his loving wife Mary, passed away on November 12, 2016 at Hospice House in Poland, Ohio. His perpetual smile and kindness will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Vincenzo was born on September 1, 1923, in Decorata, Italy to Concetta (Pilla) and Guiseppe Martuccio. They and his siblings Francesco, Michele, and Philomena have preceded him in death. He married his lovely bride Maria, in January of 1951 and followed her later that year to New York City. They ultimately settled in Girard, Ohio where Vince earned a legendary reputation as a strong and hard worker in leather and steel plants and factories, as a busy and generous landlord and handyman, and as an incredible gardener and winemaker. He was a member of St. Rose Church and its Knights of Columbus. He and Maria enjoyed hosting parties, dancing, cooking and playing cards with their many friends, relatives and paesani. He is survived by his wife, Maria, children Lily and George (Gaye) of Girard and Joe (Pam) of Canton, grandchildren Maria Jackson (Paul) of Chicago, Brandon and Mason Martuccio of Girard, and great-granddaughter Sophia Lily Jackson of Chicago; and numerous nieces and nephews in the United States and Italy. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, November 16th, 11:00 AM at St. Rose Church. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:30 PM - 7:30 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. Vince will be laid to rest at Girard City Cemetery. Special thanks go out to Hospice of the Valley for their kind and compassionate care.
