Walter M. "Pete" Scannell, 75, of Austintown, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the Cleveland Veteran's Hospital. Pete was born December 4, 1942 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Myron and Jules (Pugh) Scannell. After graduating, Pete served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Pete retired from Syro Steel as a welder after 42 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #235 of Girard, where he served as a Past Commander in 1990. Pete enjoyed anything to do with cars, especially racing. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 37 years, Carol E. (Lynn) Scannell, whom he married May 19, 1980, his children; Brian (Dawn) Scannell of Port St. Lucy, Florida, Susan ( Richard) De'Onofrio, of Port St. Lucy, Florida, Jason Conner of Cincinnati, Ohio and Rebecca (Kenneth) North of Niles, his sister, Nancy Hetrick of Girard, brother, Jay Scannell of Girard, twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Pete is preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Darby and granddaughter, Miranda De'Onofrio. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 10th, 7:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 5-7 PM.
