William D. Oliver, 73, of Liberty Twp., passed away on Friday, October 23, 2015, at his home. He was born in Boston, MA on July 2, 1942, a son of William D. and Mary E. McDonough Oliver and adoptive mother, Diana (DiFuria) Oliver. Bill was a veteran having served 3 years active duty in the US Army in Germany during the Berlin Wall Crisis, the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War Era and 3 years standby in the US Army Reserves. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Medal. After military service, his business career began as a facilities planner and engineer in Boston, MA. The next 35 years of Bill's life were spent in senior sales and marketing management positions in the office products, office furniture and filing systems industry, taking him to live in Grand Rapids, MI, Youngstown, OH, Charlottesville, VA, Jacksonville, IL and Syracuse, NY. He returned to the Youngstown area in 1994. He retired from the Small Business Development Center at Youngstown State University in July, as a Certified Business Advisor (CBA) and Business Consultant, providing counseling, training programs and consulting services to local start-up and existing businesses, including all aspects of business management and operations. He attended Wentworth Institute of Technology and Northeastern University for a BSBA. Bill was a member of the American Legion, Post 0888 in Delaware, OH, the AMVETS, Post 290 in Vienna, OH and the IFH in Girard. He was a lifelong Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins fan. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Judith (Bzinak) Oliver, whom he married in 1979, his children, Kathleen D. Oliver of Santa Rosa, CA, Richard J. Oliver (Ann) of Gahanna, OH, Brendan D. Oliver of Worthington, OH, Deborah A. Spencer (James) of Warren, OH, Barbara J. Davidson (Harry) of Murrayville, IL, and Marybeth A. Bielecki (Andrew, Jr.) of Niles, OH, six grandchildren and one great-grandson. Bill also leaves his sisters, Mary E. Oliver of Falmouth, MA, and Elsie M. Kmiec (Bob) of Boston, MA, and a brother Donald E. Oliver (Dorothy) of Falmouth, along with a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 28th, 11:00 AM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 5:00 - 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Bill will be laid to rest at Churchill Cemetery with military honors.
