William J. Rice, 83, of Liberty Twp., passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at Park Vista Nursing Home. Bill was born January 9, 1932 in Youngstown, the son of John and Josephine Bachtold Rice. Bill was an Army veteran serving his country during the Korean Conflict in Ft. Richardson, Alaska. Bill worked for Packard Electric for 29 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard. Bill was an avid outdoors man, an auto racing participant and an avid snowmobile enthusiast and collector. At age 82 his final highlight, at the Eagle River Vintage Snowmobile Derby, in 2014, was finishing 4th place in the Super Seniors Classic. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former, Ann Marie Tobin, whom he married November 19, 1955, his sons; William Jeffrey (Lisa) Rice of Liberty Twp., John Thomas (Mary Ann) Rice, of Walkertown, NC, and James Edward (Janet) Rice of Girard, brother, Leonard (Joan) Rice of Sandusky Bay, Ohio, and grandchildren; Jeffrey Rice of Poland, Richard, Melanie Bardol, Jeffrey (Sara) Chance, Kelsey Huber, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 22nd, 5:30 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, with military honors to follow.
