William Milton Schumm

William Milton Schumm, 99, of Girard, passed away on February 23, 2021 in the comfort of his home. William was born July 30, 1921 in McDonald, Ohio, a son of William Mercer and Rosalie (Schoffstall) Schumm. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. William worked as a Utility Analyst for U.S. Steel for 39 years retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Girard First Christian Church, Western Reserve Fish and Game, was former Assistant Scoutmaster Troop 47, and served as president of the Girard Senior Citizens club for many years. William enjoyed camping, canoeing, boating, fishing, hunting, traveling and photography. He was a handyman, could repair almost any household item, and often invented his own house and yard tools. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Dr. James W. (TiTi McNeill) Schumm of Lakewood Ranch, FL, grandson, Richard W. (Patty Pepper) Schumm of Niles, and a great grandson, Richard Mitchell Schumm. William is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Schumm, whom he married August 30, 1941 and passed away October 14, 2016, his sons, Charles and Richard Schumm, daughter-in-law Dr. Marsha J. Betley, and sister, Leah Mae Schumm. A private committal service will be held at a later date. William will be laid to rest at Tod Homestead Cemetery next to his wife. William's request was that any memorial contributions be made to: Marsha J. Betley Memorial Fund, University of Wisconsin, 550 Linden Dr., Madison, Wisconsin 53706.
