William "Bill" H. Slabe Sr., 91, of Liberty Twp., passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Park Vista Nursing Care Center. Bill was born November 2, 1925, in Struthers, Ohio, the son of Matthew T. and Mary Steblaj Slabe. Bill served his country during WWII in the Navy and then served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. After the war, he worked for Ohio Bell Telephone Co. as a cable splicer, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Youngstown Men's Garden Club and their Jubilee and the Telephone Pioneers. Bill enjoyed spending quality time with his family, golfing, gardening and woodworking. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 61 years, Patricia (Host) Slabe, whom he married June 4, 1955, his children; Pamela J. (Terry) Mazzone of Wellington, Ohio, William H. (Renee) Slabe Jr. of Eastlake, Ohio, and Bradley R. (Mary) Slabe of Youngstown, grandchildren; Julie M. (Frank) Major, William H. Slabe III, Jill M. Mazzone, Mark A. Mazzone, Bradley R. Slabe Jr., Brian M. (Rachel) Slabe and Patricia L. Slabe and great-grandchildren, Arianna M. and Roman F. Major. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his son Mark Slabe, four sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 31st, 10:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 5-8 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. William will be laid to rest at Churchill Cemetery with military honors. The family requests any memorial contributions be made to Akron's Children's Hospital, 6505 Market St., Youngstown, Ohio, or the church memorial fund in Bill's memory.
