William L. Smith Jr., 90, of Vienna Twp., passed away in the early morning on January 14, 2012 at his residence. William was born October 17, 1921 , in Niles, Ohio, to the late William L and Ethel N. Mealy Smith Sr. William was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the 136th Infantry. He served 39 months overseas and was stationed in the Philippines before seeing battle in Japan. He was employed 17 years for Isaly's Dairy, 28 years for the Liberty Local Schools as a custodian, bus driver and truck driver and 6 years for Sharon Tube Company. William was an avid gardener, and enjoyed bowling, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his family and friends. He was an active member of the Liberty Assembly of God Church where he was a member of the bell choir and the Young at Heart group. He is survived by his wife, the former, Shirley Seiple, whom he married Sept. 7, 1949, and their three children, Sherry Smith of Brookfield, David Smith of Vienna, and Linda (James) Smith-Prem of Beverly Hills, Florida, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his sisters Grace Smith and June Smith-Commel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday January 18th, 11:00 AM at the Liberty Assembly of God Church . The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard and also on Wednesday from 10 - 11:00AM at the church. William will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery in Vienna.
